Alice is a doula & host of Bumps & Books, a bookclub and writing circle for expectant mothers.

Hello, I’m Alice.

I offer support for expectant & new mothers, by drawing on my skills in storytelling and advocacy.

A newly-certified doula, I have been a fierce advocate for women for years, working as a reporter and BAFTA-nominated documentary filmmaker/ investigative journalist. From Sudan to Somalia to Suffolk and Stratford, I’ve held space, advocated and amplified the voices of the women I met, who often times were themselves navigating pregnancy and motherhood in the most challenging of circumstances. More about this work here.

Reading became a lifeline for me during pregnancy. I felt seen and heard in the layered and touching stories that seemed to exist in the liminal space that pregnant mothers journey in. Texts about birth and postpartum, fuelled my body with resolve, tenderness and anticipation.

Putting pen to paper (or notes on my phone whilst breastfeeding in the dark) then became my way of navigating new motherhood, of processing my thoughts, of connecting with my peers.

As I witnessed and personally experienced just how healing and fundamental an empowering journey to motherhood could be, I decided to train as a pregnancy, birth and postnatal companion (doula) with Conscious Birthing, under their Doula UK and European Doula Network accredited course.

Weaving all of this together, I now offer support to expectant mothers and parents —from conception to birth and beyond—as a doula, and also through Bumps & Books, a bookless book club and writing circle for expectant mothers.

I hope to help make this transition a special, tender and empowering experience for you.
